THE 15K

CITIZEN RACE

Illinois' Toughest 15K

Are you ready to tackle what has been hailed as “Illinois’ Toughest 15K”? This race will challenge and change you, winding you through the most historic streets of Peoria before celebrating afterwards with the biggest post-race party The Steamboat Classic has ever seen!

Saturday, June 6, 2026

Downtown Peoria, Illinois
Start Time: 8:10am

The first weekend of June, the 15K will immerse you in so much of the beautifully historic heart of Peoria, from the bustling downtown to the peaceful parks. You will leave this race with more than fond memories and sore calves. All 15K entrants receive the official 4 Mile/15K shirt, medal, and a ticket to a spectacular post-race party.

The Course

This 15K is no walk in the park (even though you will be running through one). You will begin the race on the vibrant and lively streets of downtown Peoria before pushing further into the city where you will encounter the historic Glen Oak Park. In this beautiful public park, you will complete two loops of quad-burning hills, then enjoy a stroll through the Peoria Zoo before catching your second wind and heading back towards downtown (where massive crowds of fans will propel you to the finish).

This is a challenging course and, in coordination with the City of Peoria, streets must be reopened to vehicular traffic promptly at 9:35 AM. For this reason, walkers are highly discouraged from registering for the 15K and are encouraged to participate in the 4 Mile race instead. To stay on course, participants must maintain an average pace of 11:30 per mile or faster.

To ensure participant and community safety, the following strict checkpoints will be enforced.

9:15 AM Bottom of Glen Oak Hill (before 2nd ascent)
Runners must reach this point to continue the 15K. Anyone after 9:15 AM will be redirected to the 4 Mile course and guided to the finish.

9:20 AM Zoo Entrance (2nd pass)
The Zoo gates will close at 9:20 AM. Anyone not through by this time will be rerouted out of Upper Glen Oak Park via the alternate course route.

9:30 AM Upper Glen Oak Entry at McClure (2nd loop)
Runners not reaching this point by 9:30 AM will be redirected onto the alternate route and will not re-enter the park.

9:35 AM All Participants must have completed the inner ring and outer ring portion of Upper Glen Oak Park

The finish line will remain open until 10:30 AM, and all participants who complete the course, whether full or shortened due to cutoffs, will receive a finisher medal. Course reopens to vehicular traffic at 10:15 AM.
