Cause For Celebration: David Weir
As part of our Cause for Celebration series presented by PNC, we are highlighting the Triumphs of Athletes with Disabilities who have reshaped sport with extraordinary achievement and resilience. This week, we celebrate David Weir, widely known as “The Weirwolf.”
Born with spina bifida, David Weir is one of the greatest wheelchair athletes of all time. Across six Paralympic Games from 1996 to 2016, he earned six Paralympic gold medals and became a dominant force on the track, especially in middle and long distance events.
Beyond the Paralympics, David cemented his legacy on the world stage with eight London Marathon victories, a record that showcases his unmatched strength, strategy, and longevity in the sport. His aggressive racing style and relentless drive earned him his legendary nickname and the respect of athletes worldwide.
Today, we celebrate a true icon whose career represents the triumphs of athletes with disabilities and continues to inspire generations to push limits and redefine what’s possible.
